What Are Assurance Services?
Assurance services provide independent verification that your financial information is accurate, complete, and fairly presented. They give confidence to everyone who relies on your financial statements — lenders, investors, shareholders, regulators, and business partners — that the numbers can be trusted.
Assurance sits on a spectrum from compilation (we prepare the statements) through independent review (we examine and provide limited assurance) to full audit (the highest level of assurance). The right level depends on your company's size, structure, and statutory requirements.
Independent Reviews — What They Are and When They Apply
Under South Africa's Companies Act, many private companies are required to have their annual financial statements independently reviewed rather than audited. An independent review provides limited assurance — the reviewer examines the financial statements and confirms that nothing has come to their attention that suggests material misstatement.
Chris Schutte is a registered Independent Reviewer — qualified and authorised to conduct independent reviews for companies that meet the relevant criteria under the Companies Act. With over 15 years of experience and a background completing audit articles under CASA Professor Izak de Villiers, he brings exceptional depth to the review process.
Your company may require an independent review based on its Public Interest Score (PIS) — calculated using turnover, employee numbers, debt and shareholders. We can assess your requirements and advise on the appropriate level of assurance for your specific situation.
Who Needs Assurance Services?
- Private companies with a Public Interest Score between 100 and 349
- Companies that have raised financing from banks or investors requiring reviewed financials
- Businesses tendering for contracts where reviewed statements are required
- Shareholders or directors who want independent verification of financial results
- Companies transitioning from a compilation to a higher assurance level
An independent review is not just a statutory checkbox. Done well, it gives business owners genuine confidence in their own numbers — and credibility with every external stakeholder who reads their financial statements.
